Nourish your body and soul with our signature Yoga & Stand-Up Paddleboarding retreat in a quiet corner of Algonquin Park, Ontario, Canada.

How is the experience?

Imagine being guided each day to focus on yoga as an invitation to live its principles; how could you begin to transform and deepen your practice? This yoga retreat at Ontario’s Algonquin Park offers daily active and restorative yoga sessions in the cradle of our eco-retreat while learning to stand up paddle on scenic Kawawaymog Lake.

Far beyond the hum and bustle of the city there is stillness here and opportunities to connect with what matters most and experience living in our hearts and senses. Away from cell phone coverage and internet service we offer space to experience both the sounds and the silence of nature around you.

Loons may be heard as their calls echo over the lake, the sound of rain on the cabin roof may lull you to sleep, and the sound of a canoe paddle dipping into the water just might feed your soul. Windchimes sing in the breeze while birds chirp in the forest and waves lap on the shoreline.

You are invited to hike the nearby trails to be immersed in wild surroundings, to take in the silence and the stars in the dark sky at night, to have shared laughter around a campfire, and to dip your toes (or jump in!) to the lake as it welcomes you.

It’s a little Yin for your Yang . . .

  • Four days / three nights of accommodation and meals at Ontario’s award-winning Algonquin Park nature retreat

  • Daily active and restorative yoga sessions

  • Stand-up paddling (SUP) lessons and excursions

  • Mouth-watering locally grown, organic meals (dietary requests accommodated)

What are people saying?

Chef Gregor was a magician at creating fabulous meals from his kitchen overlooking the lake. He had his guests drooling with anticipation as he recited before each meal the local ingredients (from herbs to meats, fresh-pressed basil oil to Scotch ale) that composed his menu of organic delights. His passion for the environment and partnering with local growers make each meal an adventure in its own right. And he met each dietary request with ease, including glutin-free and vegan. Everyone raved over each meal.

Northern Edge Algonquin is for you if you want to breathe fresh air, swim in a clean freshwater lake, eat fresh organic food, meet like-minded people. In our particular case, we chose the Quest for Balance retreat, which included yoga sessions and stand up paddleboarding. No activity was ever mandatory. The priority is to respect oneself and each other. No judgments here. There are planned activities and also free time. It is a place to get unplugged totally. I highly recommend it, and will definitely return.

When I signed up, I figured I’d have a pretty good time. But I was astonished by how truly wonderful it turned out to be. And the impact that it had on me, physically, mentally and spiritually. I not only had the best vacation I could imagine, but I was able to really relax, gain some much-needed perspective, rediscover my love of yoga and the outdoors and overcome some hurdles which turned out to be more mental than physical.

A beautiful space to escape from the city, technology, and enjoy nature surrounded by a gorgeous family-style lake house. Chef Greg was my favourite addition, his food was wonderfully prepared, locally & organically sourced, and SO delicious! You could really tell he loved what he does. The yoga studio has a fantastic view of the lake, and every part of the space was thoughtfully and beautifully designed - would highly recommend and will definitely be back.

The staff is attentive, passionate about creating a restful experience for you, and have thought of everything. The buildings are spotless and cozy and the facilities are beautiful, well laid out and fit into the natural environment. And the food -- the best, most plentiful, creative, delicious, organic local food imaginable... The yoga studio overlooking the lake and the meditation room are peaceful and lay the groundwork for a wonderful transformative retreat.

Intrusions

We are a wilderness retreat centre with some neighbours on the lake. There is the occasional hum of a generator when our solar panels do not get enough sun. On some busy weekends in the summer, neighbors may zip across the lake on jet skis at parts of the day - at these times, pockets of quiet can be found on forest trails or in cozy cabins. The experience still remains profoundly quiet - the sounds of nature such as loons, crickets, wind through the trees, and rain on the cabin roofs are prominent :)
